Position Summary

Grow Progress is looking for a Senior UI/X Product Designer to help us build tools that enable our clients to practice persuasion for good. This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing team as we embark on new, uncharted challenges and push our product into its next era.

We are a quickly growing team of more than 50 people who are passionate about giving strategists the tools to persuade more people. We power breakthroughs in persuasion by helping strategists to more deeply understand the people they’re aiming to move — not just how they look, but how they think. We then give strategists the ability to scientifically test their messages at a radically accessible cost, so they have the freedom to test more creative strategies.

For this, we’ve built powerful software that offers our customers unprecedented access to run scientific message tests quickly and affordably, so they can unlock the most effective messages. We currently work with many of the biggest Democratic pollsters, marketing agencies, advocacy groups, campaigns and labor unions in the country.

We give our customers the power to persuade more people by tailoring their messages to match each audience member’s values. We help customers harness the latest persuasion science to create messaging that’s typically 200% to 500% more effective than their existing ads. We do this by predicting which personality traits and values are most important to each individual.

About the Position

This opening is for the Senior UI/X Product Designer. Senior UI/X Product Designers at Grow Progress lead design projects from conception through to build, and iteration.

A typical week might involve the following:

  • Leading a design sprint with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Creating wireframes, prototypes, or mock-ups for a new feature or product
  • Synthesizing feedback on your designs through our design critique process
  • Collaborating with engineers through our design review process, to offer feedback on guidance as engineers build out your designs
  • Connecting with your Product Manager to get alignment on ongoing projects
  • Tagging user research insights in Productboard (our product management software)

 

About You

You’re a seasoned full-stack designer in the middle of your career with a specific interest and expertise in UI and data visualization design. You are excited by the opportunity to craft user interfaces that meet industry standards for aesthetic appeal and user experience.

You are comfortable navigating conceptual, sometimes ambiguous challenges, and making sense of complex information. You are adept at relying on both your intuition and data to back up your design decisions – and you’re able to communicate those decisions clearly with various stakeholders. You’re prepared to have strong opinions and to express them, but you understand your role as the facilitator, engager, and synthesizer; you’re constantly thinking about frameworks and processes that will help align your team while centering the user. You are deeply curious, and have a knack for asking the right questions to identify and solve problems.

In addition to your hard skills, you also bring an above-average amount of empathy to your work. You think deeply about others and are committed to continually improving how you communicate and build relationships with both users and your coworkers. You are the person in the room thinking the most about those with the least; you dream of a more accessible, inclusive, and equitable world and are constantly envisioning ways to build towards it.

 

What You’ll Do:

In this role, you’ll serve as the team’s expert on UI and data visualization design, while also being able to throw on your “generalist” hat and practice design as a full-stack sport. You will design new features and redesign existing ones, conduct user research, and work with product and engineering to bring new products to the market. You will be expected to move fluidly between the macro and micro, paying as much attention to the execution of the corner radius of a button as you do to the interdependencies between large product areas.

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • A portfolio of projects that demonstrate your UI chops as well as your experience working across the product development lifecycle from user research to prototyping to implementation
  • Proven ability to craft design assets (wireframes, mock-ups, prototypes, etc.) that clearly capture and communicate design ideas with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to communicate industry standards related to UI and product design and an awareness of shifting market trends
  • Experience with emerging, component-driven design systems and proven ability to improve existing components and expand existing cross-disciplinary processes
  • Expertise in data visualization design with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear, easy to follow visuals for a variety of audiences and stakeholders
  • Strong visual design skills and aesthetic taste. A demonstrated mastery of fundamental graphic design, such as color, composition, typography, and visual hierarchy
  • Experience collaborating with product and agile engineering teams
  • Strong stakeholder and upward management skills; experience turning your ideas into narratives that drive alignment
  • A proven commitment to clear, inclusive communication and experience collaborating with all kinds of people
  • A passion for politics and progressive change
  • Current U.S. work authorization

 

Bonus skills and experience/Opportunities for growth:

  • Experience and interest in designing products for B2B/enterprise clients
  • A gift for facilitating collaborative, engaging design exercises remotely
  • Technological experience within the market research, performance marketing, and/or ad testing industries
  • Advanced knowledge of a product design software (we use Figma) and a knack for picking up new tools quickly

 

Hiring Process

  • Phone Screen: (~30 minutes) Short interview with our Director of People to answer some behavioral and logistical questions, and a chance for you to ask questions about the position and the company.
  • Experience Interview: (~30 minutes) Interview with our Design team to evaluate your experience and alignment with our team goals.
  • Behavioral Interview: (~50 minutes) Panel interview with members of the design team and cross-functional peers in which all candidates will be asked the same ~10 questions.
  • Design Collaboration Challenge: This is an evaluative stage that is broken into three parts:
    • Part 1: Receive Project Brief: You’ll receive a quick design challenge brief 30 minutes before your interview
    • Part 2: Collaborative Session: (~45 minutes) You’ll have an opportunity to run a collaboration session with a cross-functional panel
    • Part 3: Collaboration Debrief: (~15 minutes) You’ll debrief with our Design Manager
  • Final Interview: (~30 minutes) This is a final interview with executive leadership.

Compensation: $110,000 to $130,000 yearly salary (depending on experience), plus equity. Benefits include a 100% paid company health plan with medical, dental, and vision insurance, a flexible PTO plan, and a 401(k) with employer matching. Staff are also offered stipends for professional development, work from home resources, and wellness, and access to Carrot insurance among other benefits.
