Texas Majority PAC is a research and development institution dedicated to flipping Texas blue by building year-round Democratic infrastructure in the key regions of Texas. TMP invests in partners running voter engagement and turnout programs in an effort to bring their work to the scale required to win statewide office in Texas.
Summary of Position:
Texas Majority PAC is seeking a Data Manager to join our team. This role will serve as a general assistant to the Data Director and work with other members of the team to advance our data program that focuses on driving increased Democratic voter turnout in Texas. Specifically, the Data Manager will support our statewide organizing, electoral data, and campaign services programs. This will include collecting, organizing, storing, and managing data to ensure accuracy and efficient retrieval, handling the day-to-day data needs of TMP and our partners, providing timely and relevant analysis of data, fielding requests for specialized projects, and creating data pipeline infrastructure to be used by partners across the state. Successful execution will help Texas Democrats use their resources in the most efficient manner to target the right voters and win races from the top of the ticket to the down ballot.
The ideal candidate has worked in a data position on a campaign; has experience with VAN/VoteBuilder, Excel, and SQL databases; and has experience with data visualization tools and working with voter file data. The best candidate will be curious, flexible, and open to learning new skills and trying new ways of using data to solve problems. The candidate should be comfortable with providing data and technological training and support to fellow staff members, campaigns, volunteers, and county parties across the state on VAN and other voter contact tools. Above all, they should be a team player with a deep commitment to turning Texas blue.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain robust data infrastructure in a SQL database that will drive voter turnout programming across the state
- Maintain and improve internal PAC voter data production
- Support program managers on setting up text and phone banking campaigns
- Oversee our turf cutting operation
- Act as frontline support for troubleshooting VAN help requests
- Administer bulk uploads in VAN from letter writing programs
- Maintain log of canvassing results
- Create saved searches, scripts, and target lists in VAN
- Develop and maintain our My Campaign volunteer database
- Collect raw political data and convert it to usable form for analysis
- Other tasks as assigned by the Data Director or Executive Director
Qualifications:
- Previous campaign data experience
- Experience with programming languages and data visualization tools such as Phoenix, SQL, and Google Data Studio
- Experience working with voter file data
- Ability to hold oneself accountable with minimal management and deliver projects on strict deadlines
- Excel/Google Sheets proficiency
Preferred, but not required:
- Experience in field organizing either as a staff member or volunteer
- Experience using organizing tools like MiniVAN, Spoke, auto-dialers, Reach, etc.
- Database and cloud infrastructure skills, particularly BigQuery
- Experience using APIs to create pipelines
- Located in or willing to relocate to Texas
