About the Opportunity
Accelerate Change is seeking an IT Infrastructure and Development Specialist (Freelance) to support our technology operations and projects. Accelerate Change works with a diverse range of partners and requires a skilled IT Infrastructure and Development Specialist to support our operations and projects. If you have a passion for technology, a knack for problem-solving, and experience with coding in JavaScript and managing Heroku applications, we want to hear from you!
This opportunity involves assisting with partner infrastructure management, vendor coordination, WordPress site maintenance, and integration support. The ideal candidate will have experience in coding JavaScript and managing Heroku applications and will work closely with our Head of Tech to ensure smooth operations and continuous improvement of our tech infrastructure. This opportunity is pivotal in supporting the Head of Tech, contributing to the overall success and efficiency of our technology initiatives.
Here’s what you could expect to do as IT Infrastructure and Development Specialist (Freelance):
- Technical Project Support: Assist with general technical projects, such as the deployment of a ticketing system, implementing new software solutions, migrating data, upgrading hardware and software, setting up virtual machines and cloud environments, improving cybersecurity measures, developing and deploying mobile applications, integrating automation tools, conducting system audits, and other IT initiatives
- Support Infrastructure Management: Assist in monitoring and managing partner infrastructure, including applications like Kinsta, WordPress, JavaScript-based Heroku applications, cloud services (e.g., AWS), and cybersecurity measures
- Website Maintenance Support: Assist in maintaining and updating WordPress sites for Accelerate and its partners, including custom development, plugin maintenance, site optimization, security updates, and troubleshooting issues to ensure optimal performance and user experience
- JavaScript Development Support: Help build, maintain, and troubleshoot our custom JavaScript applications. This includes developing new features, optimizing performance, fixing bugs, integrating with third-party APIs, conducting code reviews, writing unit tests, and ensuring code quality and maintainability through best practices and documentation.
- Tech Evaluation and Enhancement Support: Aid in evaluating and enhancing our current tech infrastructure while identifying and helping to deploy new solutions to meet evolving needs. This includes researching and recommending new technical platforms and software that could benefit the organization, conducting feasibility studies, and assisting in implementing and integrating these new tools to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness.
- Advanced Help Desk Support: Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support by troubleshooting complex technical issues, performing root cause analysis, resolving escalated incidents, assisting with system and software configurations, managing user accounts and permissions, deploying updates and patches, and delivering technical guidance
What We’re Looking For

- 3+ years experience with key responsibilities: We’re looking for someone who has at least 3 years of experience with monitoring and managing various tech infrastructures. Strong coding skills in JavaScript and experience with Heroku applications, Kinsta, Textit, Twilio, Mailchimp, WordPress is essential.
- Proven Track Record: We value candidates who can provide concrete evidence of building and maintaining integrations with various platforms.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Proficient written and verbal communication skills are paramount for creating clear and accessible technical documentation.
- Problem Solver: You are known for finding answers and solutions. You enjoy thinking through a problem and troubleshoot technical issues,
- Collaboration: You have experience working with teams cross functionally to get the work done.
- Start-up experience highly valued: Remote or hybrid work experience with similar responsibilities within a fast-paced and dynamic organization is preferred.
Compensation
This is a 3-month, part-time freelance opportunity to start with the potential to extend to a 6-month contract. The compensation range is $60-$65 per hour, depending on experience. The number of hours per week will vary, but we estimate roughly 15-20 hours per week, with potential to increase hours as needed.
