Position Summary

Summary

The Research Analyst will conduct research and data analysis within the Research and Policy team in support of FairVote’s advocacy mission. They will respond to data requests from colleagues, conduct original research, and manage and prioritize FairVote’s existing applied research projects. The Analyst’s work informs campaigns on priority issues across FairVote with direction and support from their team.

The Research Analyst reports to the Director of Research and Policy. This position is full-time regular, exempt, and benefits eligible. Work may be conducted at our Silver Spring, MD office or may be a remote position. If remote, the Research Analyst would be expected to join the team in Silver Spring roughly 3-6 times per year for in-person meetings.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct careful and objective research into questions about U.S. elections and electoral reform proposals.

  • Write research reports, FairVote blog posts, and fact sheets about research findings and electoral reform.

  • Respond to requests to provide data and analysis to support movement partners, including state and local RCV leaders.

  • Participate in discussions on data collection, study design, methodology, and data analysis.

  • Analyze data through the use of statistical tools, interpret the results, and provide visualizations and written summaries of findings.

  • Work efficiently in a collaborative environment, sharing analysis techniques and common practices with other staff.

  • Assist with other projects as assigned.

Qualifications and personal attributes 

  • Enthusiasm for FairVote’s central reform priorities.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in political science or a STEM field, or equivalent experience.

  • Experience using spreadsheet applications such as Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel, and at least one advanced analytics tool such as R, Python, or similar.

  • Knowledge of statistical methodologies and analyses.

  • Excellent writing skills, including experience in writing persuasive data-driven materials and compelling narrative reports

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with groups and individuals with a diversity of experiences and political views.

  • Willingness to pursue new avenues of inquiry and develop new skills in a self- directed manner.

Salary Range:

$62,400.00 To 71,700.00 Annually
